Thauvin Fires Udinese Top Of Serie A
Serie A: Marseille loanee Florian Thauvin struck his first goal of the season to lift Udinese level on points with AC Milan at the top of Serie A on Sunday
The French winger's 13th-minute finish at Cremonese was enough for Udinese to claim a 1-0 win and move above third-placed Napoli, who beat Atalanta 3-1 on Saturday, on goal difference.
Milan will have the chance to reclaim top spot when they host Monza later on Sunday
Udinese have now won three games in a row in Serie A after opening the season with three straight draws while Cremonese remain winless and bottom of the standings after eight matches.
Cremonese came closest to scoring when Daniel Ciofani hit the crossbar after 15 minutes
But despite having more of the ball, they rarely troubled Udinese and failed to record a single shot on target.
Thauvin, who joined Udinese on loan from Marseille in the summer, broke the deadlock with a neat finish after being found by a cross from Nehuen Perez
The win moved Udinese up to 20 points, the same as Milan, who have a game in hand, and Napoli.
Juventus, who beat Bologna 3-0 on Saturday, are fourth on 16 points
Lazio, who won 4-0 at Spezia on Saturday, are fifth on 15 points.
