The History of Presidential Elections in the US

The United States has held 59 presidential elections since its founding in 1789. The first election was held in 1788-1789, and George Washington was unanimously elected as the first president. Since then, there have been 58 more elections, with the most recent being held in 2020.

The presidential election process typically begins in late 2022 or early 2023, with the primary elections and caucuses. During this time, candidates from both major parties compete for their party's nomination. The general election is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
